Stories of Moving Success with House to Home Relocation

House to Home Relocation is proud to share a few samples of our experiences in helping families and seniors with their moving needs.

For us, relocating is not just moving boxes and furniture, but moving people, families and lifetimes of memories. Each move is a special, unique event for each person, who can be filled with a range of emotions when leaving a house and settling into a new home. We like to say, “We move people first, boxes second.”

Sarasota to St. Petersburg, Florida

It is hard to give up a gorgeous, 2,600-square-foot condo on the water and lifelong friends and connections to church and clubs, but Mrs. B. did so a year after her husband of 30 years passed on. She could see that relocating to an active living community was on the horizon, as she required more assistance with transportation to her many activities and medical appointments, with walking her precious dog, and with housekeeping and food shopping, to name a few. House to Home Relocation managed her downsizing move to a lovely 900-square-foot penthouse apartment in independent living community—www.westminsterretirement.com—and set up a beautiful, brand new den and office, where she sits surrounded by diplomas, certificates and family photos that all tell stories of her full life. A number of personal belongings were donated to charities before her move.

Mrs. B’s positive attitude about her move and her ability to make the decision on her own about where she should move were the key to adjusting to a new city and a new lifestyle at the age of 80, and to making new friends and finding new doctors—all of which can be overwhelming.

Sarasota to St. Petersburg, Florida

At the age of 85, Mr. G. decided to start a new chapter of his life in a new city. House to Home Relocation helped him move from one independent living residence to another in downtown St. Petersburg close to his sister. The daily walks to the downtown pier were a highlight of his day. About a year following, it became evident that Mr. G. required assisted living following several falls. House to Home Relocation helped him relocate to an assisted living community about seven miles away, where residents live in a unique arrangement of “neighborhoods”—www.bonsecoursstpete.org. He’s rebounded with remarkable speed from having three hearty square meals a day and plenty of social interaction. His cherished artifact collection from his travels overseas and around the U.S. is displayed in his new home, so that he can share stories about them with new friends.

St. Petersburg, FL to Eden Pairie, Minnesota

(ranked No. 1 by Money Magazine—August 2010, America’s 100 Best Small Cities).

Mrs. R. decided to leave St. Petersburg after 35 years of paradise living with her husband of 57 years to be near her daughter’s family. While Mr. R. was alive, they had already downsized from a large residence on the water in St. Petersburg to a 1,200-square-foot home in an independent active living community. Especially precious to her in this major move to Eden Prairie were her piano (which she plays daily and used to visit many retirement communities to play songs for their residents); large oil paintings painted by her mother and father; a very large, formal family portrait; and many keepsakes from her husband. House to Home Relocation planned Mrs. R.’s move for almost two months; she departed St. Petersburg and her longtime friends just two days before the move day. The set-up at her new residence was coordinated with a Twin Cities pioneer company in senior move management—www.gentletransitions.com—which unpacked Mrs. R. in one day. The company’s owner gave House to Home Relocation great marks on prep work, details and packing for this interstate move. Mrs. R. has been delighted to show off her new home to new friends at her new active living community—www.summitplaceseniorcampus.com.
