Some of our work experiences with the older population have resulted from contact by adult children. Many seniors living in the Tampa Bay Area do not have their adult children or other relatives nearby to help them relocate.
One of our recent experiences involved a call from an adult child living in the mid-west who was making plans to move her mom back home to a continuing care community near her. And her mother wanted to be geographically closer to her daughter and grandchildren. This adult child couldn’t make multiple trips over the following two months to make all of the arrangements, to include organizing, sorting, liquidating and get ready for move day. So, we managed all of the details and arrangements for her relocation from Florida, coordinating long distance with her daughter.
Another recent experience was in St. Petersburg, Florida where we live, to help an older gentleman move to a local continuing care community. His two grown children in the area had full-time jobs and were unable to help full-time with the downsizing and organizing and sorting needed before his relocation. We managed all of the details and arrangements from beginning to end over three weeks, and at the end of his move-in day, his new apartment had everything in place, including the three beautiful large portraits of his children hung for his viewing, and his computer and desk set-up for his immediate use.
Moving by no means is easy. Many of us have a house full of treasures and memories. If we are relocating to a smaller home, downsizing our belongings and figuring out what to move and can fit in a new home can be a daunting experience, and especially stressful for all in trying to manage a move for a family member. It can also be expensive for adult children in both time and money to fly or drive periodically to assist their parents in the move. A senior move manager works closely with the senior and adult children who are either living locally or long distance to make the relocation happen successfully.
Relocating is much more than just loading one’s possessions on a truck. That’s probably the easiest thing of all. Senior move management services can include planning the move, sorting and organizing personal belongings, developing a floor and space plan, liquidating personal belongings that aren’t moving, packing, notifying services about a client’s move, setting up with a reputable moving company, supervising the move day, unpacking, and setting up a new home so that everything is just right for an individual or couple to begin enjoying their new lifestyle immediately. That’s House to Home Relocation’s goal!
